July 12, 2010 New Dawes
One of the best songs I’ve heard in a while, comes at a time when the subject matter hits me hardest. Enjoy, and search out Dawes debut disc ‘North Hills.’

June 3, 2010 Brokedown Melodies
Amongst other things, I’ve been spending a lot of time writing, rewriting, constructing, hypothesizing, etc. figuring out what exactly I’m going for and where I’m going to go with what I’ve got in my creative bag o’ tricks. It seems never ending… the creative process that is. I have a bunch of material that I’m sitting on, not really fully pleased with where it’s at, but then again, I’ve been living with it and tweaking it daily for so long that I can’t conceivably look at it with a clear eye. After a while, it doesn’t take long for recordings to lose meaning, words to change, and confidence to dissipate. My solution to this has been to get out of my creative cocoon if you will, and take the songs outside for a breather. I’ve been in the process of booking shows in and around the SoCal area and its about time I let these things loose.
While I’m busy jumping creative roadblocks of all kinds, I’ve decided to start a little feature in which I will cover (every couple of weeks) a new song and put it out there for the masses to download, share, etc. I’m taking requests, going for songs that normally wouldn’t be changed up, trying to make them worth a listen or to. Hopefully they are entertaining while you wait so patiently for a ‘real release’ from me. I promise, it is coming.! Again, these aren’t meant to blow you away with their quality, as they are meant to be homegrown, REAL sounds, rather than soul-less over compressed tracks.
For the first installment of Brokedown Melodies, here’s a link to listen and download my cover of Chris Browns ‘Crawl’. Let me know what you think! The next song has yet to be chosen, so email, tweet, send me a message with your ideas!

March 30, 2010 How to Make it in LA
Mi Familia!
It’s been so long, I owe you an explanation I suppose? I’ve had my nose to the grindstone in more ways than one. Physically, at a job that keeps me uninterested in logging hours. Mentally, at a job that requires me to log all my off hours into it. It would be exhausting if I didn’t love the second half so much. Let’s hope that comes across well in the final product that gets to your ears.
There is nothing fancy about the way it happens. It starts with an idea, a phrase, a sequence of notes/intervals, and ends with a final tune that is specifically crafted to make its way into the ears/dancing shoes/heart of the listener. It’s a process like anything else, and I would be lying if I said I’m where I want to be, but I will get there. That being said, I love it regardless of where I’m at and I want to share what I’m doing and how it comes as best I can.
It’s as organic as it looks and I hope the heart that goes into each recording on my end comes through on the other end. To put it plainly, I’m workin’ hard, but this dream isn’t going to come true overnight. So here is my open invitation to you and whoever chooses to listen and read: Come along, share in the joys and pains of it all with me. The response I get in any form is what makes it all worth it. I appreciate the support. There are lots of good things coming!
So while I’m busy chasing down dreams, there are several places you can stay up with me.

December 24, 2009 The Night Before Christmas
I’m pretty happy to just skate by on the bare minimum amount of interest and effort demanded from me, but when it comes to making recordings, I just can’t seem to let them be. I find myself spending hours on a single guitar take, or taking 30 minutes to get the phrasing right on a single lyric. When I came to recording this Christmas EP, I started the normal nit picking of details, pulling my hair out for a few seconds of a touch of better pitch here, or an accompanying guitar slap that just didn’t sound quite right. Unfortunately, I wasted much of my time before realizing that something of this sort shouldn’t be perfect.
All the smoke and mirrors behind a recorded ‘studio’ track negates the whole point of the recording. This is the first of what I hope will be many mp3′s, albums, ep’s, etc., and it’s to be shared with those closest to me. As it is all I can really afford to give this year, I wanted to keep it real, in the spirit of warmth, generosity, and love. With the exception of a few harmonies and backing tracks… I’d like to think this would be my set list if I could share songs with friends and family in person. I tried my best to stay true to that feeling.
So download, share, spread the love around. And enjoy The Night Before Christmas.

December 10, 2009 Culver City Carols
The lack of holiday decorations in LA is kind of a buzz kill, coming from a state where there are Christmas lights on every corner. The occasional strand of holly or garland adorns a palms tree here and there, but the lack of seasonal green and white has left me a little lost. In an attempt to conquer the city holiday blues, here’s a caroling standard from me to you from my holiday EP, available free to download soon…
Let your heart be light.
